    The Route:

We picked up the motorcycles from near to Malaga Airport thanks to Hispania Tours, who rent all different types of well maintained BMW’s and are extremely close to the airport making it incredibly easy to fly in and be on your bike in minutes.

With only a few days for this adventure, we took the highway MA-20 out of Malaga heading out of the city quickly to join up with the A-45 towards the small town of Casabermeja. After a coffee pitstop in town we took the A-356 towards Riogordo.

The A-356 is littered with loads of dirt trail side streets that weave between fields and olive groves. My recommendation is to take your time, go and get lost in these trails and enjoy yourself.

Eventually we took the trail off in the direction of Los Marines and on to Periana for lunch. Eating some fresh tapas from the small Bar Caribe – Taberna de Isidro in town. This gave us time to refuel ourselves and plan the route for the afternoon.

We headed out of town on the trail called the Camino de Zafarraya, then taking another trail to the right down the Vereda de Periana al Boquete which joins up with the A-402. The A-402 is a twisty fun road, which is worth a diversion before heading back to Ventas de Zafarraya. Taking the loop back round through El Toril gives a great little addition to the trip.

Once again this area is full of trails to explore so we took the Camino de Zafarraya back through the disused railway line that cuts through the mountain rock from Ventas de Zafarraya back to meet up with the trail we took earlier. In short go explore and have fun!

Joining back up with the A-402 and heading north from town we then took the A-338 to start making our way towards Granada for the night. This is a great riding road that takes you down past the beautiful vista at lake Embalse de los Bermejales.

Arriving into Granada in the dark, we parked up in an underground car park for extra security, leaving our BMW F850GS‘ there for the night as we walked to Hotel Anacapri.

Hotel Anacapri, was clean and very centrally located. They were incredibly helpful with directions and advice and they recommended the delicious La Vinoteca around the corner for dinner. We weren’t disappointed, very highly recommended.

The following morning we started the day with breakfast at Barista Durán, a cool, quirky place with great coffee and a healthy filling breakfast bar.

Then a trek through the narrow streets would lead us to the stunning vista point of Mirador San Nicolàs with probably the best view of the Alhambra in town, and the snow covered mountains behind it.

Motorcycles are allowed to ride these tight cobbled roads that wind through old town Granada, so we took a spin around to see as much as possible.

It was then lunchtime, so we headed to Casa Gabriel, recommended to us by a local, where we feasted on the very tasty Menu of the Day out in the piazza, whilst enjoying the sunshine.

After lunch it was back on the bikes, to enjoy some more of the trails, this time heading south on the GR-3208 and turning off at the town of La Loma onto the Camino Forestal de Albuñuelas.

This area a is a playground for adventure motorbikes like the BMW F850GS, spend as much time as you can here and take all the possible trails. We went up to Cima La Albardilla and the trails around to fully enjoy this area.

Eventually time got the better of us, so we headed down to La Barraca a restaurant in a secluded cove, the food here is outstanding and the setting is beautiful, a perfect stop to finish a great few days of riding. Be warned this is a Naturist beach, so you might get more than you bargained for whilst you’re scoffing your paella!

Finally to finish the journey, as the sun was setting in the sky we headed back to Malaga to drop off the motorcycles and fly home.

Spain always exceeds expectations for a motorcycle adventure, last year we rode the older BMW F800GS’ towards Rhonda, check out that Andalusia Adventure and this year we had this incredible off-road adventure in Granada.

So now it’s your turn, get on a motorcycle, yours or a hired one, and go and have an adventure!
