I’m here in Malaysia for an adventure ride around this brilliant country and also to see the MotoGP Test in Sepang.
Today was the 1st day of testing and it’s been incredible to see all the new riders, machines and teams, as many things have changed since the 2010 season.
After winning the World Championship, Jorge Lorenzo leads the factory Yamaha team and is joined by rapid American Ben Spies who was the leading rookie last season. Big news has been Valentino Rossi’s move to Ducati and it was special seeing him ride the red machine today even though he didn’t do many laps, surely because of his shoulder injury.
Casey Stoner has moved over to the factory HRC Honda team and joins Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso to form a 3 man team, making an impressive line up for the Japanese giants while Suzuki down size their factory team to just one and put all the effort behind Alvaro Bautista who impressed last season in his debut year in the MotoGP class and looks set to improve in his 2nd season.
Marco Simoncelli rode like a demon in 2011 and has been rewarded with a factory bike for 2011, Moto2 Champion Toni Elias moves up with LCR Honda and British star Cal Crutchlow moves from World Superbike to MotoGP and joins the French Tech2 team with the experienced American Colin Edwards as his team-mate.
It looks like it’s going to be an amazing season that has many great racers, awesome motorcycles and fierce rivalry that has me excited and its only day 1 of testing.
Anyway, he are a few photos from the day and I’ll be back tomorrow to tell you more before I embark on my Adventure around Malaysia on a BMW GS and testing out some new and impressive Adventure gear from Alpinestars.
