Roads:
The Applecross Pass is the third highest road in Scotland with the steepest ascent of any road in the UK. It is a single track road in ok condition with Alpine like hairpins carved into the mountain side. When you reach the top you are rewarded with a stunning view across Loch Carron and coming down the other side there is some wholesome pub food waiting for you in the Applecross Inn!
If you have time follow the coast road back through Fearnmore back to Tornapress to give you another beautiful ride.
Eats and Sleeps:
The Drovers Inn – This haunted pub served us a good portion of proper Scottish Haggis washed down with a wee dram of Scotch Whiskey! The warm friendly atmosphere was a great welcome after a long day on the bikes. We had a good nights sleep here with a hearty breakfast, ready for another day on the road.
The Cabin Seafood Restaurant, Mallaig – Seafood couldn’t get much fresher than at this restaurant in the port of Mallaig.
Hot Totty – This potato shaped mobile cafe we found in the Loch Carron Viewpoint gave us a piping hot cup of tea with a beautiful view over the Loch.
Applecross Inn – The chef’s fish pie was outstanding, definitely recommended. Although we didn’t stay here this is also a Bed and Breakfast.
Glen Nevis Caravan and Campground – This campsite in Fort William gives great views over Ben Nevis and serves a gorgeous egg and bacon breakfast sandwich!
Sights:
Riverside Transport and Technology Museum, Glasgow
Wallace Bagpipes Ltd – Traditional production of this unique instrument and home of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers
It’s time to start planning your adventure, get on your bike and go for a ride!
