Jerez MotoGP + Video!!
MotoGeo heads to Jerez MotoGP, where the Spanish fans party like no others and the motorcycle racing is even more wild!
Sunday:
Wow! What a race meeting, it has been non-stop action in every class, with every lap.
Biggest news on the day was Valentino Rossi making a pass for 2nd and then crashing out, taking Casey Stoner down in the process. Vale would remount and go on to the finish where he ended up an amazing 5th while Caseycouldn’t get his Honda started and would retire a very frustrated man.
Marco Simoncelli looked set to take his first MotoGP victory until he highsided out of the lead, handing it to Lorenzo who never put a wheel wrong.
The Spanish fans were treated to some totally awesome racing and a fairy tale win for the world champion Jorge Lorenzo whie fellow countryman Dani Pedrosa came home in 2nd with Nickey Hayden rounding out the podium.
It was action packed all the way, thrilling to be there and apart of it all. Both riders, fans and the organizers made the whole events totally awesome.
I’ve personally never seen so many bikers leave a venue before, the Spanish definitely love their motorcycles.
Thousands of Spanish fans turned up to watch qualifying practice and Jerez was buzzing with excitement.
Casey Stoner set the fastest lap to secure Pole Position and tried to spoil the party but with Pedrosa and Lorenzo were hot on his heals so there was still plenty to shout about.
Rossi fell down early in the session on his #1 machine and couldn’t do any better than 12th on his #2 bike so will now starts well down the grid and has a tough race ahead of him. He crashed when he open the throttle while leaned over at 68 degrees, losing the rear and out of the running.
The Jerez circuit and paddock has been full of fans from the early hours, it’s difficult to walk around just normally, and you’ve no chance if you are a well known rider!
Outside the track is motorcycle chaos, I’ve never seen so many bikers, the Spanish love their 2 wheels and cause a huge traffic jam going into and out of the track.
They say it’s likely to rain tomorrow, which I hope it doesn’t but if it does, I don’t think that it will dampen the party, Jerez is alive with the sound of motorcycle engines, fans and partying…… I’m going in search of the madness tonight, looks like I’ll be having little sleep.
Below are some photos from the day, hope you enjoy looking through them, more tomorrow which is the big one, RACE DAY!!
FRIDAY:
If there is a MotoGP race to go to in your life then Jerez in the South of Spain has to be near the top of your list, only Mugello comes close.
Ever since I raced here many years ago I have been determined to come back as a fan and experience the event from the other side of the fence. Why?? Because on race day 120,000 fans swarm to the Jerez circuit and go crazy and with such strong Spanish MotoGP riders the party doesn’t really stop all weekend.
Today I got a bit of a taste of things to come, thousands of fans turning up for practice, the sun is shining and motorcycles are everywhere!
Below are a few photos of my trip around the MotoGP paddock, hope you enjoy taking a look around….
