Gran Canaria Route / MotoGeo Routes
This is the adventure route we took on our adventure on the beautiful volcanic island of Gran Canaria, now you can create your own adventure!
The island of Gran Canaria is a small volcanic island and the majority of the roads are in excellent condition with a super sticky volcanic rock based asphalt.
There is very little traffic and it’s difficult to find a straight road on the island making this an unexpected haven for any motorcycle enthusiast.

Gran Canaria is an island that is small enough to be able to ride the full length of it in just a few hours and the weather is good all year round, so there are no snowy winters to stop you from riding.
Our adventure started when we borrowed a KTM 1290 Super Duke GT from KTM dealer Valsebike in the town of Telde then headed straight to the mountains after stopping for breakfast at a gorgeous bakery HayPan in Ingenio, very fresh breads and delicious orange juice!
From Ingenio route GC-120 takes you up into the mountains towards Picos de las Nieves at the top. This is a twisty and steep road, which is quiet for traffic and the condition of the road is excellent.
The summit of Picos de las Nieves is full of stunning vistas, even over to the nearby volcano on the island of Tenerife.
On our first day the weather was not so good so we headed down the mountain on GC-60 towards Fataga, the road here is unbelievable, twists and turns on almost brand new tarmac. Gran Canaria was already exceeding all expectations!
We were lucky enough to come across the Gran Canaria carnival, costumes were incredible and spirits were high on the island.
From there we ate at Restaurante El Centro Guayadeque, which is built into the natural lava caves on the island, a really interesting experience and the quality of food was high, well worth a visit.
The next morning we headed to the windsurfing resort of Pozo, great to see people enjoying themselves on the waves, from there it was a short journey on the coast road to Maspalomas.
Maspalomas is the more touristy side of the island with a number of large hotels, but luckily Gran Canaria, has not got the same number of tourists on the scale of some of the Spanish islands.
Maspalomas is also where the incredible sand dunes are. These were another unexpected surprise of the island and fascinating to see. Heading over these and we ended up on the nudist beach, great if that’s your thing, but we were soon back on the bike and onto those beautiful roads taking us back towards the summit.
The GC-65 took us up to the town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and then, after stopping for a traditional lunch of Garbanzada at Restaurante Grill La Cumbre we rode up to the top to see Picos de las Nieves in the clear skies and sunshine.
We took the GC-550 back towards Ingenio, then north to Cazadores before taking the GC-130 back towards Telde to return the bikes to Valsebikes.
Our adventure was mainly in the south east of the island, but almost every road was incredible and we can’t wait to go back and discover what else the island has to offer.
Gran Canaria truly is a gem for any motorcyclist, if you get the chance it’s well worth the journey and with year round sunshine it’s a great place to ride.
Now get on your bike and go have an adventure!
