This adventure started in the town of Laruns deep in the heart of Parc National des Pyrenees.
Every road around here was incredible! We started up the Col d’Aubisque, famed for the Tour de France and this twisty mountain round took us so long to film that we started running out of daylight because at every corner there was another beautiful view.
The lunch stop was at the small cafe on the top of Col de Soulor, this was a traditional french lunch of cheese, patè, cold meats and some gorgeous french bread.
This area of the Pyrenees is a big ski centre, so many of the shops and restaurants were closed when we arrived in the summer. Be careful if you’re up the mountain and it gets late as you can struggle to find a place open in the summer months.
We took our dinner in at La Boule de Neige in the ski resort of Gourette before heading down the mountain to the town of Argeles-Gazost where we found La Villa Du Parc a great Bed and Breakfast with fresh croissants in the morning an homemade jams, definitely recommended!
The following morning we took the route D100 to Parc de Loisirs du Hautacam another twisty mountain road full of incredible vistas. These are all cycling routes from the Tour de France and you can see why, as it’s worth riding a bit slower to take in the beauty of the Pyrenees around you.
From here it was back down the mountain and across the Col de Spandelles back to the town of Laruns for a delicious lunch in Hotel d’Ossau.
There is plenty more to enjoy in the Pyrenees, this is definitely a region we will be coming back to.
In the meantime, get a motorbike and head down there you won’t regret it!
